My areas of interest and approach to therapy is mind and body, somatic response and Yin Yang. Yin is often compared to the parasympathetic nervous system whereas Yang is compared to the sympathetic nervous system. If taken out of context of mind and body, Yin Yang is still everywhere, it is within everything we do and every dynamic we're in. Somatic response therefore, is the involuntary physical reaction to a psychological stimulus. How this works is when the brains emotional centre (The amygdala) perceives a sense of danger or threat, this then causes a release of stress hormones (cortisol) which then results in physical bodily changes and illnesses. In summary of all of the above, its seen that a true state and sense of well being is only achieved when finding balance between these two opposing forces - Mind and body/Yin yang.

What I offer at Rushmoor Lakes ...
By using the reflections of water within therapy provides an exceptionally powerful tool, enabling clients to be able to externalize emotions, practice mindfulness at its finest and reducing levels of anxiety.
Metaphoric properties using still water which helps the client reach a state of emotional clarity. Using the status of the water to represent the clients current emotional state. Reflection is only visible when the water is perfectly still – Our inner wisdom is often only seen when the mind stops racing.
Application via practice – If a client is very stressed or anxious, their mind could be compared to choppy turbulent waters, that would therefore make it hard to see the bottom. This can positively normalize the distress helping shift a focus towards calming the ‘surface’ (The mind) to uncover emotions and triggers.
‘Blue Mind’ Therapy – Marine biologist Dr. Wallace J.Nichols coined the ‘Blue Mind’ Phenomenon which refers to the mildly mediative, restorative state the brain enters when near water.
